Even, gentle weight across you, in three sizes.

Breathable fabric filled with non toxic glass beads, in small pockets so the weight stays where it should.

A weighted blanket spreads an even, gentle weight across you instead of simply covering you.

This one is filled with non toxic, hypoallergenic glass beads held in small stitched pockets, which is what stops the fill sliding into one corner.

The fabric is deliberately thin and breathable, so the blanket carries its weight without also being hot.

It comes in three sizes: 91 x 122 cm at 1.8 kg, 122 x 183 cm at 5.4 kg, and 152 x 203 cm at 6.8 kg.

A weighted blanket is meant to cover your body rather than your bed, so it is smaller than an ordinary blanket of the same name.

Weighted Blanket - 91cm x 122cm

The first thing to know is that a weighted blanket is sized to your body, not to your mattress. That is why a 152 x 203 cm weighted blanket is not the same thing as a 152 x 203 cm duvet, and why buying up a size usually disappoints.

Weighted Blanket - 91cm x 122cm

The common guide is to pick something around ten per cent of your body weight, then adjust to taste. Plenty of people prefer a little lighter, and there is no penalty for doing so.

Weighted Blanket - 91cm x 122cm

The fill is non toxic hypoallergenic glass beads rather than plastic pellets. Glass beads are smaller and denser, so you get the same weight in a thinner blanket, and they are quieter to move under.

Weighted Blanket - 91cm x 122cm

Those beads sit in small stitched pockets. Pocket size is the detail that separates a good weighted blanket from a bad one: large pockets let the fill migrate, and the weight ends up bunched at your feet.

Weighted Blanket - 91cm x 122cm

It is a homeware product, not a medical device, and nothing about it is intended to diagnose, treat or cure any condition. If you are considering one because of a health concern, that is a conversation for a clinician.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send it back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Heavyweight Blankets a long-term sleep solution?

It is not a solution to anything on its own, it is a blanket. What makes it last is the build: glass beads in small stitched pockets keep the weight even for years rather than migrating into the corners the way a cheap one does.

Why are Heavy Blankets popular for natural sleep support?

Because they are simple. There is nothing to plug in, nothing to take and nothing to charge. People who like them like the steady, even weight, and that is the whole of the appeal.

How is a Weighted Blanket different from layering blankets?

Stacking blankets gives you bulk and heat. A weighted blanket gives you weight without either, because the load comes from glass beads rather than from more fabric, and the stitched pockets stop it sliding off to one side overnight.

Why do Heavyweight Blankets feel comforting and secure?

Because the weight is even. Small stitched pockets hold the beads in place, so the pressure you feel across your shoulders is the same as the pressure across your feet, and nothing shifts when you move.

Can a Heavy Blanket support consistent sleep patterns?

We would not claim that. What we can say is that plenty of customers use one as part of a regular wind-down routine because they like how it feels. If your sleep is a genuine problem, that is worth raising with your GP.

Are Weighted Blankets suitable for relaxation therapy?

That is a question for whoever is running the therapy. This is a homeware product sold for comfort, and we make no therapeutic claim for it. If a clinician has recommended a specific weight, buy that weight.

Do Heavyweight Blankets help maintain sleep through the night?

We cannot promise that. Some customers say the even weight keeps them from shifting about; others find it too warm. It is a comfort preference, not a treatment.

Can a Heavy Blanket improve bedtime routines?

If you like it, using it at the same time each night makes it part of the routine, in the same way a particular pillow does. That is habit rather than anything the blanket does to you.

How does a Weighted Blanket affect the nervous system?

We make no claim about what it does inside your body. What it does on the outside is apply an even, gentle weight that most people describe as feeling like being held. Anything beyond that is a question for a clinician.

Are Heavyweight Blankets recommended by therapists?

We are a homeware shop and we are not in a position to speak for any clinician. If a professional has recommended a weighted blanket to you, follow their guidance on weight and size. We sell 1.8 kg, 5.4 kg and 6.8 kg.

Can a Heavy Blanket help calm nervous energy?

Many customers tell us they find the even weight settling. We cannot put that any stronger than that, because how it feels is personal and we have no way to promise it for you.

What does sleeping under a Weighted Blanket feel like?

Most people describe it as a firm, even hug. It should feel present but not restrictive: you should be able to move, turn over and get out from under it without effort. If it feels trapping, it is too heavy for you.

How do Heavyweight Blankets support emotional wellbeing?

We do not make wellbeing claims for a blanket. It is a comfort item. If you are looking for help with how you are feeling, please talk to your GP or a qualified professional rather than relying on a purchase.

Is a Heavy Blanket useful outside bedtime?

Yes, and a lot of people mostly use it that way: on the sofa in the evening, reading, or over the knees in a cold room. The 91 x 122 cm size at 1.8 kg is the one people buy for exactly that.

Do Weighted Blankets help after stressful days?

Plenty of customers use one to wind down in the evening because they like the feel of it. That is a preference, not something we can promise will work for you.

Can Heavyweight Blankets help with insomnia symptoms?

We cannot make that claim, and you should be wary of anyone selling a blanket who does. Insomnia is a medical matter and worth taking to your GP. If you simply want a heavier blanket because you like the feel, that is what this is.

How breathable is a Heavy Blanket during sleep?

The fabric is deliberately thin and breathable, and glass beads are used precisely because they are denser than plastic pellets, so you get the weight in less material. It is still a weighted blanket though, and some people find any of them too warm in summer.

What filling is used inside a Weighted Blanket?

Non toxic, hypoallergenic glass beads, stitched into small pockets. Small pockets are the detail that matters: they stop the beads clumping or migrating, which is what makes the weight stay even.

Are Heavyweight Blankets suitable for sensory sensitivity?

Some people with sensory sensitivities do use them and some find them unbearable, so we cannot answer that for you in general. If it is being considered for a specific need, please take the question to the professional supporting you.

Can a Heavy Blanket support focus and calm before bed?

We would not claim it affects focus. It is a blanket with even weight that many people find comfortable to sit under while reading or winding down.

Why do Weighted Blankets feel calming?

Because the pressure is even and predictable rather than patchy. Most people compare it to a firm hug. We are describing the sensation here, not claiming anything about what happens inside your body.

Do Heavyweight Blankets help with tossing and turning?

Some customers say they move about less under one. Others say it makes turning over more effort. Both are common, and which one you are depends on the weight you choose.

Is using a Heavy Blanket every night common?

Yes, it is built for regular nightly use. Wash it inside a laundry bag on a cold gentle cycle when it needs it, or use a separate outer cover and wash that instead.

How quickly can a Weighted Blanket feel effective?

Most people know within the first few minutes whether they like the feel of a given weight. If it feels like too much, it probably is: go lighter rather than trying to get used to it.

What makes Heavyweight Blankets different from standard blankets?

Weight, and how that weight is held. A standard blanket insulates. This one is built with internal stitched pockets so a measured amount of glass bead fill stays evenly spread across you instead of bunching.

Can a Heavy Blanket help reduce anxiety naturally?

We will not claim that. Anxiety is a health matter and a blanket is not a treatment for it. What we can honestly say is that many customers find the even weight comforting. If you are struggling, please speak to your GP.

Who benefits most from a Weighted Blanket?

People who simply like a heavier blanket. Beyond that we would not want to say, because it is a comfort preference rather than something with a defined group it works for.

Are Heavyweight Blankets scientifically supported?

We are not going to point at studies to sell a blanket. There is published research on weighted blankets and the picture is mixed rather than settled, so we describe what ours is and how it feels and leave the science to people qualified to interpret it.

How does a Heavy Blanket improve sleep quality?

We cannot promise it will. The honest version: it is heavier and the weight is even, some people sleep better under one and some find it too warm or too restrictive.

What is a Weighted Blanket and how does it work?

It is a blanket with non toxic glass beads stitched into small pockets so a measured weight sits evenly across you rather than pooling. Ours come in 1.8 kg, 5.4 kg and 6.8 kg. The usual starting point is around ten per cent of your body weight, adjusted to taste.

Weighted Blanket Guide: Everything About Heavy Blankets and Heavyweight Blankets

A weighted blanket is a blanket with a measured amount of fill sewn into it so it presses evenly across you instead of simply lying on top of you. That is the whole idea. Everything else in this guide is about getting the weight, the size and the construction right, because those are the three things that decide whether you end up using it or folding it away.

We should say plainly what this page will not do. We are a homeware shop, not a clinic, and we make no claim that a blanket treats, relieves or improves any medical condition. If you are looking at a weighted blanket because of your sleep, your stress or a diagnosed condition, that is a conversation worth having with your GP or the professional supporting you. What follows is about the product.

What A Weighted Blanket Actually Is

Weighted blankets are filled with dense material, most often glass beads, sometimes plastic pellets or steel shot, stitched into a grid of pockets. Total weight across the market runs from roughly 5 to 30 pounds, with most adult options between 12 and 25 pounds. Ours are 1.8 kg, 5.4 kg and 6.8 kg.

The pockets are the part people overlook. The grid exists to stop the fill migrating. Get it right and the weight over your shoulders matches the weight over your shins. Get it wrong, with pockets too large, and the fill slides downhill over a few nights and collects at the foot of the blanket, which is both uncomfortable and the end of the blanket's usefulness.

How It Differs From Ordinary Bedding

An ordinary blanket is doing one job: keeping heat in. A weighted blanket is doing a different one, and the weight rather than the warmth is the point. It does still provide warmth, which is worth knowing if you sleep hot, because you are adding a layer as well as adding weight.

Choosing The Right Weight

The Ten Per Cent Guide

The common starting point is around ten per cent of your body weight. It is a rule of thumb rather than a rule, and it is a starting point rather than a target. Plenty of people settle on something lighter and are perfectly happy.

If you are between two options, take the lighter one. A blanket that feels like slightly too little is a blanket you will use. A blanket that feels like too much is one you will stop reaching for after a fortnight.

Sharing A Bed

Two people rarely want the same weight, and a single shared weighted blanket is usually a compromise nobody enjoys. Most couples who get on with them end up with one each, sized individually, rather than one large one between them.

Children

Children need proportionally lighter weights, and this is the one area where we would ask you not to work it out from a web page. Always speak to your paediatrician or another qualified professional before giving a weighted blanket to a young child, and follow the guidance they give you on weight and supervision.

Sizes And What They Are For

Lap And Throw Sizes

Our 91 x 122 cm at 1.8 kg is the sofa size. It is meant for over the knees while reading or watching something, and it is the one people buy when they are not sure whether they will like a weighted blanket at all.

Bed Sizes

The 122 x 183 cm at 5.4 kg and the 152 x 203 cm at 6.8 kg are the bed sizes. Here is the thing most people get wrong: a weighted blanket is sized to your body, not to your mattress. It is meant to cover you, not to hang over both sides of the bed. That is why a 152 x 203 cm weighted blanket is not the same purchase as a 152 x 203 cm duvet, and why buying up a size to match your bed usually leads to a blanket that drags itself onto the floor overnight.

Fill Materials

Glass Beads

Fine glass beads are the current standard and what ours use. They are denser than plastic, so the same weight fits into a thinner blanket, and they are quieter to move under. Ours are non toxic and hypoallergenic.

Plastic Pellets

Plastic pellets are cheaper and larger. Because they take up more room, a pellet-filled blanket of the same weight is bulkier and warmer, and they can be audible when you shift about.

Steel Shot

Steel shot beads are heavier per bead, which suits the top of the weight range, but they make for a firmer blanket with a more noticeable texture through the fabric.

Covers And Fabrics

The outer fabric is what you actually feel, so it matters more than the spec sheet suggests. Polyester fleece is soft and warm and is the common choice. Cotton breathes better and suits anyone who sleeps hot. Bamboo and other cooling fabrics go further in the same direction.

Some weighted blankets come with a removable duvet-style cover. If yours does, use it: washing a light cover regularly is far easier than washing a 6.8 kg blanket, and the weighted inner then needs washing only rarely.

Judging Construction Quality

Pocket Size And Stitching

Smaller pockets hold the fill more evenly. Look at how the grid is stitched and whether the seams are reinforced, because those seams are carrying weight every time the blanket is picked up or washed.

Edge Finishing

Proper edge binding is what stops fill escaping and is usually the first thing to fail on a cheap blanket. It is worth a look before you buy.

Even Fill

Lay the blanket flat and feel across it. It should feel the same at the corners as in the middle. Anywhere noticeably lighter or heavier means the fill was not distributed properly at the factory, and it will only get worse.

Living With One

Give It A Few Nights

A weighted blanket feels strange on the first night, in the way any change to your bedding does. Most people know within a week whether they like it. If after a week it still feels like too much, it is too heavy, and going lighter is the fix rather than persevering.

Position

It should cover your body and stop there. Letting it hang over the side of the bed means it slowly pulls itself off you during the night.

Temperature

You are adding a layer. If you already sleep warm, choose a breathable cover and expect to use fewer other layers underneath.

Safety And Suitability

You should be able to move under it, turn over, and get out from under it easily and without help. If you cannot, it is the wrong weight.

Anyone with respiratory or circulatory conditions, difficulty regulating temperature, or anything affecting mobility should speak to a healthcare professional before using a weighted blanket. The same goes for young children, as above. A weighted blanket is not appropriate for everyone and it is not a medical device.

Some people simply dislike the sensation, and people who feel confined easily often find weight unhelpful rather than comforting. That is a normal reaction and worth testing before you commit to using one nightly.

Care And Washing

Washing

Wash inside a laundry bag on a gentle cycle in cold water. Hand washing is gentler again. Check your machine's capacity before you start, because a wet 6.8 kg blanket is considerably heavier than a dry one and can overload a domestic drum.

Drying

Air dry. Heat is what damages the fill pockets and the stitching over time. Lay it flat rather than hanging it, because hanging a wet weighted blanket pulls the fill toward one end.

Spot Cleaning

For small marks, spot clean rather than washing the whole thing. It is quicker and it puts less strain on the seams.

Storage

Store it flat or loosely rolled rather than tightly folded, somewhere dry. Tight folding creases the pockets and encourages the fill to settle unevenly.

Choosing Yours

Work out first where it will actually be used. Sofa use points at the 91 x 122 cm; sleeping under it points at one of the two bed sizes. Then pick the weight from your own body weight rather than from the size of your bed, and if you are between two, go lighter.

After that it is down to fabric preference and how warm you sleep. Ours are breathable by design, with fine glass beads in small stitched pockets, and they come in three weights so the choice is genuinely yours to make.
